The Senior squad at Leicester Rowing Club train to represent the club at events all over the country throughout the year.
The Men’s and Women’s Senior racing squads train to race at competitions all year round and anyone joining will be expected to be of a good level of fitness and be ready to commit to a training plan. Senior training takes place throughout the week and weekend mornings. New members would be expected to start with 2-3 sessions a week, some crews racing at a high level train much more.
The Men’s and Women’s senior squads race throughout the year with crews on the water all year round training in preparation. Winter training during the darker evenings results in more indoor gym and rowing machine training. Over the summer months most sessions are on the water.
Joining the Senior squad
Senior learn to row sessions take place on Saturday mornings from 11:30am – 1pm and Thursday evenings 6pm – 7:30pm. If you are invited to join the club following any initial sessions, training will initially continue in these time slots so it’s essential you can normally attend both time slots.
We welcome anyone into rowing via our Learn to Row sessions but anyone joining needs to know that, compared to other sports, there is a significant time and effort commitment involved in rowing.
Our club coaches will support you via coaching and training plans but rowing isn’t the kind of sport where you can only come down occasionally and still expect to get into a regular boat and progress. We don’t say this to put you off but there is a steep learning curve to rowing and all too often we lose new members due to the time, commitment and training needed to get to race level.
To register your interest a attending a future session visit our Learn to Row page for the next available opportunity.
