The 2011 University Boat Race was won by

LEICESTER UNIVERSITY BOAT CLUB

The first ever City of Leicester Inter-University Boat Race between Leicester University and DeMontfort University was held at the ever popular Leicester Regatta, on Sunday 17th April. The Lord Mayor of Leicester, Councillor Colin Hall, was present to toss a coin to allow the universities to decide which side of the river they were to race on.

The race was close from the start, but slowly Leicester University pulled away to eventually win the race with a commanding lead. DeMontfort may blame there misfortune on an astonishing event on the way down to the beginning of the course. As they were practicing their starts for the race, one of the members of their crew was flung out of the boat and into the river by the sheer force of their start!

After the race, the medals were presented to the winning crew by the Lord Mayor. It was not all glory for Leicester University though, as they lost out in the Novice 4+ final to three J17s and one J16 from Leicester Rowing Club. The regatta was thoroughly enjoyed by all clubs who took part in the regatta.
