Masters RowingMasters rowing is open to anyone who has reached the tender age of 27. Events are divided intoage categories (A, B, C, D etc) based on the average age of the crew so you will be racing people of a similar age. Currently the oldest official category is I, average crew age 75 +, but there is pressure from the growing number of octogenarian rowers to extend this to J.
Many new entrants to the sport at LRC and other clubs qualify as masters and are able to compete in the novice masters category before taking on more experienced crews. Most local regattas and head races will offer masters events and at national level there are dedicated events open to allabilities. These include the British Rowing Masters Championships, which offers novice and IM3 events, Henley Masters Regatta, Masters Fours Head and Masters Eights Head. LRC has enjoyed success at all of these in recent years as well as the annual World Masters Regatta which in 2010 washeld in St Catharines, Ontario, Canada.
